First Lt. Francis Anello, assistant intelligence officer, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, is recognized at the Pacific Division Matches awards presentation, Feb. 27. Anello is the 2012 Pacific Division Individual Pistol Match winner, and was awarded a Secretary of the Navy M1 Garand trophy rifle. Participants of the Pacific Division Matches gathered at The Officers’ Club for awards, including “high tyro” for both rifle and pistol, the overall winners of the rifle and pistol matches, and the recipients of the Pacific Division Smith Trophy and Pacific Division Finn Trophy. One Marine was chosen as the “first leather,” whose score is the closest to the medalists’ scores, and there are 19 medals awarded in both the rifle and pistol matches. Approximately 200 competitors competed in the annual Pacific Division Matches at Puuloa Range Training Facility throughout February.
