Illinois National Guard Activated for Flooding

Doug House of the Illinois Department of Transportation discusses the conditions of roadways in Hardin, Illinois, with The Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, Brig. Gen. Richard R. Neely, and Illinois Emergency Management Agency acting Director Alicia Tate-Nadeau during a press conference with local and St. Louis-area media on May 30. Earlier in the day, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker activated about 200 National Guard Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 123 Field Artillery, and placed another 200 on standby to respond to extensive flooding along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. Already flooded, the river waters are expected to rise up to another two-feet in the coming days. The Illinois National Guard's mission is to reinforce and patrol levees and protect critical infrastructure. They could also be called on to help in evacuation efforts.
