SAN DIEGO (May 2, 2019) – Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Dakota Handcock, from Mustang, Okla., demonstrates a dry fire and reload drill aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Dry fire drills and exercises are required as familiarization training prior to live fire exercises. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting depot-level maintenance availability.
