SAN DIEGO (May 2, 2019) – Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Kaleb Samuels, from Pollock Pines, Calif., and Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Dakota Handcock, from Mustang, Okla., perform dry fire reload drills aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Dry fire drills and exercises are required as familiarization training prior to live fire exercises. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting depot-level maintenance availability.
