Staff Sgt. Carlos Mercado, advanced culinary NCO, prepares a salad for judges, as the first of a four-course meal, during the Joint Culinary Training Exercise’s Armed Forces Chef of the Year category March 8, at the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence on Fort Lee, Virginia. The 44th annual JCTE showcases the talent of more than 200 military chefs from around the world as the largest American Culinary Federation-sanctioned competition in North America. The exercise, administered by the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence, started March 9, and ended March 14.
