U.S. Air Force Air Liaison Officer (ALO) Capt. Kevin Carrigan (back right) provides inputs to Tech. Sgt. Mike Cmelik ,a certified Joint Tactical Air Control Party, or JTAC, on June 25, as he directs a B-1 bomber from the 379th Expeditionary Wing, based in Southwest Asia, to drop 13,500 lbs. of ordinance on an explosives laden roadway. Capt. Carrigan and Tech. Sgt. Cmelik are assigned to provide support to the U.S. Army's 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. Air Force ALOs and JTACs provide a critical link between their Army customers and the air power assets brought to bear on any given operation. This bombing mission severed a suspected main supply route used by Iraqi insurgents to bring accelerants from the south into the Baghdad area. The 3rd Infantry Division "Rock of the Marne" is deployed from Ft. Stewart, Ga.
