Lt. Col. Mark Bortnem, the commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 232, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), conducts flight checks of his aircraft prior to takeoff from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., March 8. The Red Devils are in the Unit Deployment Program rotation and are preparing to depart for MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.
