A tracked military multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) is captured mid-fire, with a rocket visibly leaving the launcher at upper right and a large plume of smoke and flame surrounding the vehicle. The system appears to be operating in an open field during late autumn or winter conditions, evidenced by bare deciduous trees in the background. The intense launch blast has created significant smoke obscuration around the vehicle.

The Soldiers of the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade, Arkansas National Guard, hosted their annual Civic Leader Appreciation Day at the Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center near Barling, Arkansas, on March 2.

Civic leaders from across the state were in attendance. The leaders were met by the command and staff at the theatre on the installation, then flown via Blackhawk to the live fire exercise demonstration and static display site location. The brigade launched a barrage of rounds from the M109A6 Paladin howitzers and several rockets from their Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS).
