Two naval flight deck personnel wearing yellow 'FD' (Flight Deck) jerseys marked 'LSD 43' are directing a helicopter from the flight deck of USS Fort Fisher (LSD-43). The helicopter, visible in the upper right, appears to be an MH-60 Seahawk conducting a vertical replenishment (VERTREP) operation with a cargo load suspended beneath it. The scene takes place over open ocean under partly cloudy skies.

A U.S. Sailor directs a MH-60 Sea Hawk onto the flight deck of the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43) during a vertical replenishment-at-sea. The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) delivered supplies and mail to the Fort McHenry by VERTREP. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are currently deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
