Maj. Gen. Dennis Hardy, deputy commander of Third Army, puts captain's rank on newly-promoted Capt. John Thomas, of Fresno, Calif., Wednesday, July 25, at Camp Virginia, Kuwait. Thomas, 33, is a member of 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry Regiment of the California National Guard, which deployed to Third Army (Forward) in Kuwait in June 2007 to provide convoy security operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
