Wounded Marines from the Battle of Iwo Jima are helped to an aid station by Navy medical corpsmen and less seriously wounded fellow Marines. Wrecked American equipment both on the beach and in the water are clearly shown. The volcanic sand that proved to be such an obstacle to the landings on Iwo Jima is best illustrated by the depth to which the Jeep in the right foreground has sunk, as well as the depth of the footsteps of the men going along the beach.
