During the ceremony Capt. Chavous Nichols III, commander of the 878th Engineer Company, hands the North Carolina Flag to Maj. Gen. James Ernst, the deputy adjutant general of the NCARNG, at the Bethlehem Church in Gastonia, N.C.. The passing of the flag is a symbolic gesture representing the return of the 878th to state duty.
