    130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The North Carolina Army National Guard conducted a redeployment ceremony for the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade’s 878th Engineer Company February 15, 2019 at the Bethlehem Church in Gastonia, N.C..
More than 100 soldiers from the 878th returned in December from nearly a year-long deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
The Bethlehem Church auditorium was standing room only as the official party and soldiers from the 878th filed in and took their seats. After a brief invocation the soldiers and civilians in the crowd were addressed by Maj. Gen. James Ernst, the deputy adjutant general of the NCARNG, and Capt. Chavous Nichols III, commander of the 878th.
“I feel privileged to take the opportunity to welcome 878th Engineer Company home. So far, our journey as been very impressive...” beamed Nichols. “...you put on the uniform and raised your right hand and volunteered. Everything [we accomplished] was because we worked together as a team. We looked at each other like family. We all had our bumps and bruises but we came together accomplish our goal..”
During its mission the 878th provided engineering support for Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve for the 20th Engineer Brigade and the 983rd Engineer Battalion. They transformed the landscape of both Syria and Iraq by creating and improving force protection, security, and basic life support needs.
“We were all close during the deployment and that has not stopped since we came back in December.” said Spc Breana Brevard, an engineer with the 878th. “We continue to support each other.”
The 878th has a long history of service to its state and country. They’ve provided flood relief and road repairs in response to hurricane flooding in S.C. in 2015 and N.C. in 2016. The unit also has multiple overseas deployments. In 2005 the 878th deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and to El Salvador in 2011, in support of Operation Beyond Horizons, a humanitarian military-civic engagement.
