U.S. Army Sgt. Taylor Coe, a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear specialist with the California National Guard's 9th Civil Support Team, looks for entry points into a former prison building during a night exercise, Jan. 28, 2019, on Alcatraz Island near San Francisco, during the first day of the Bay Exercise. National Guard civil support teams worked with local agencies, including the San Francisco Fire Department, to assess and respond to a supposed chemical attack on the island. BayEx is a weeklong exercise in the San Francisco area designed to bring multiple response agencies together to practice interagency interoperability during a large scale disaster.
