Soldiers of Task Force Attack, 1-227th AV, currently serving under the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade near Sharana, Afghanistan, march under the moon and darkening skies as they approach the last challenge of the day during their winter Spur Ride. More than 40 troopers faced dust, steep terrain and cold weather to earn their spurs. Spur Rides are a tradition that dates back to the beginning of the Cavalry, when Cavalry troops had to prove their mastery of technical and tactical skills to earn the right to wear spurs atop their steeds.
