Corporal Theodore J. Crisswell, a field radio operator with Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, scans the area while on a recent security patrol. The Waukon, Iowa, native is in charge of his squad’s security element, providing protection for his squad as the members pass through areas of potential danger. Crisswell, 21, also eases the tensions of his squad’s duties with comedic relief.
