Battalion Executive Officer Maj. Christian Thomas salutes the burning 2nd Engineer Battalion flag held by Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Geddings during the Battalion’s burning of the Colors Ceremony Nov. 30 at White Sands Missile Range. The ceremony is held annually to honor the heroism and sacrifice made by the Battalion’s soldiers during the Battle of Kunu-Ri during the Korean War. During the battle the Battalion was overrun by Chinese forces and the battalion commander ordered the battalions colors burned and all usable equipment destroyed to prevent their capture by the Chinese.
