CLEVELAND (Oct. 8, 2018) Under Secretary of the Navy Thomas B. Modly announces the naming of the future littoral combat ship USS Cleveland on behalf of Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer. The announcement was held at the USS Cod submarine in Cleveland’s downtown area. The Secretary of the Navy is the sole entity with authority to approve the naming of new ships.
