BROWNSVILLE, Texas - (Oct. 5, 2018) Sailors assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, event coordinators from the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and representatives of the Brownsville Independent School District pose with students of Los Fresnos High School who placed first in the U.S. Navy-sponsored SeaPerch Challenge Competition held at the Margaret M. Clark Aquatic Center during the 2018 Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week (HESTEC). More than 35 middle and high school teams competed in the event which consisted of an underwater obstacle course, a challenge course, and team interviews. Lopez High School placed second and Harlingen High School placed third. SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program sponsored by the Office of Naval Research that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in an in-school or out-of-school setting.
