(Sep. 21, 2018) Sailors assigned to the Virginia-class, nuclear-powered, fast-attack submarine, USS California (SSN 781), walk down the pier to greet friends and family on the pier as California after pulling into their homeport of Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn. California is returning from the European Command Area of Responsibility where they executed the Chief of Naval Operations’ Maritime Strategy in supporting national security interests and Maritime Security Operations.
