Spc. Christopher Walters, 95th Chemical Company, 2nd Engineer Brigade, of Ridgeland, S.C., ensures he is using the correct coordinate scale on his map protractor as the unit conducts land navigation training at Grizzly Forward Operating Base, JBER-Richardson, Sept. 29. The soldiers used their skills to plot courses using a lensatic compass, protractor, and a 1:50,000 scale map to navigate and locate points using the grid coordinates provided. The training provides soldiers with the confidence to navigate in rough terrain, and plays a critical role in sustaining their soldiering skills and ability to shoot, move and communicate on the battlefield.
