The Armed Forces Medical Examiner System’s-Armed Force DNA Identification Laboratory DNA analysts, place samples into cartridges before loading it into the Next Generation DNA Sequencing instrument August 24, 2018.In 2016, AFMES-AFDIL developed and forensically validated Next Generation mtDNA Sequencing method which allowed for DNA sequencing results to be obtained for the first time from chemically damaged samples. To date, AFMES-AFDIL has processed over 800 samples using this new method, which has supported over 60 new identifications in two years since its validation. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt.
