A gloved hand in a surgical setting is handling a hemostat or clamp instrument on a sterile field covered with white gauze. The latex glove shows visible blood stains, indicating an active or recently performed surgical procedure. Multiple surgical instruments are arranged on a teal/green sterile drape in the foreground.

U.S. Army Sgt. Anthony Triolo, an operating room specialist assigned to the 28th Combat Support Hospital, prepares surgical instruments during MEDRETE 18-5 at the Rwanda Military Hospital, Kigali, Rwanda, Aug. 22, 2018. MEDRETE 18-5 is the first combined effort for a medical readiness training exercise between the Rwandan government and U.S. Army Africa. The exercise is part of a series of medical readiness training that U.S. Army Africa is scheduled to facilitate within various countries in Africa, and serves as an opportunity for the partnered militaries to hone and strengthen their general surgery and trauma skills while reinforcing the partnership between the countries.
