180726-N-IA905-1011 SAN DIEGO (July 26, 2018) Rear Adm. Dave Welch, commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), briefs the Wardroom of littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2). During the brief, he discussed SMWDC's Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) program, including a soon to be added Mine Warfare (MIW) WTI program. Interested Surface Warfare Officers should send an email to SWO_WTI@navy.mil for more information. Welch also toured the ship’s main spaces and spoke with ship leadership about LCS techniques, tactics and procedures. SMWDC is one of the Navy's five Warfighting Development Centers and its mission is to increase the lethality and tactical proficiency of the surface force across all domains.
