A formal military burial ceremony is taking place at what appears to be the Normandy American Cemetery in France, identifiable by the rows of white Latin crosses. U.S. Navy personnel in dress white uniforms are carefully placing a flag-draped casket into a grave while a senior officer stands at attention holding a document. A group of observers, likely family members and officials, watches from the background.

NORMANDY, France (June 19, 2018) The U.S. Naval Hospital Naples honor guard lowers the remains of Radioman 2nd Class Julius Pieper on his gravesite during a funeral service at Normandy American Cemetery. Henry Pieper and his twin brother, Radioman 2nd Class Ludwig “Louie” Pieper, were both killed when their ship, Landing Ship Tank (LST) 523, struck an underwater mine off the coast of France on June 19, 1944. Louie’s remains were found immediately, but Henry’s remains weren’t identified until December 2017. The family requested that Henry be buried in Normandy next to his brother.
