U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ross Alewine applies some suffocating defense against Team Marine Corps during a preliminary wheelchair basketball game June 4, 2018, at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Cadet Center Gymnasium during the 2018 Department of Defense Warrior Games. Alewine gathered the most points to earn the “Ultimate Warrior” title for the games. The DoD Warrior Games were conducted from June 1 – 9. It is an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 300 athletes representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, United Kingdom Armed Forces, Canadian Armed Forces, and the Australian Defence Force competed in archery, cycling, track, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, powerlifting and indoor rowing.
