Brain chamber with and without 24 hour exposure to 100 μg/mL LPS or cytokine cocktail of 100 ng/ml TNF-α, IL-1β, and MCP1,2. Green and red channels are taken from the same frame. Scale bar is 200 μm. The neurovascular unit is capable of transporting inflammatory cytokines from the vascular to the neuronal compartment in response to inflammatory stimuli. The graphs indicate transport of IL-1β and TNF-α to the neuronal (brain) compartment indicating a modulation of function to the blood-brain-barrier in the neurovascular unit.
