"One of the best parts of Balikatan is being able to build relationships, and that is what we are doing with our Philippine and Australian army partners," said U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Steckl, a combat engineer assigned to the 9th Engineer Support Battalion at Calangitan Elementary School in Capas, Tarlac, Philippines, May 6, 2018. "The best part of our mission here to build an addition to a local elementary school here is the feeling of pride our whole teams get knowing that we are making a difference in people's lives in a very tangible way."
Exercise Balikatan, in its 34th iteration, is an annual U.S.-Philippine military training exercise focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism and other combined military operations held from May 7 to 18.
