Purple shoes were a must-buy for Staff Sgt. Patti Lee-Smith, an avid runner and ambassador for the Project Purple program, which seeks to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. Lee-Smith, of David City, Nebraska, laces-up her shoes before a workout while preparing to run her 25th half-marathon at the upcoming Lincoln National Guard Marathon and Half-Marathon taking place May 6 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Lee-Smith, a logistics and contracting noncommissioned officer with the 1969th Contingency Contracting Team, is committed to serving others through the Nebraska Army National Guard; Project Purple, a non-profit focused on pancreatic cancer research; and other endeavors within her community.
