The image shows a military replenishment-at-sea or cargo transfer operation aboard a naval vessel. Several personnel wearing safety gear including hard hats and life vests are directing a crane load of military crates being lifted onto the ship. The operation appears to be a standard underway replenishment or pier-side cargo loading evolution.

Sailors use hand signals and wooden signs to communicate with the fast combat support ship USNS Rainier during a replenishment at sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is en route to Los Angeles for L.A. Navy Week 2011, participation in which will assist in educating L.A.-area leaders and the general public about the U.S. Navy as an effective and vital tool of national defense and a viable career opportunity for young men and women.
