A coastal wetland or salt marsh scene populated by a large congregation of white wading birds, likely egrets and herons, both on the ground and in flight. A winding tidal channel reflects the hazy golden light, with low marsh vegetation surrounding it. An urban skyline and mountain range are visible in the misty background.

100406-N-QK571-001 Naval Base Ventura County - Point Mugu has over 2,000 acres of jurisdictional wetlands, including the Mugu Lagoon, which provides habitat for thousands of migratory bird species, as well numerous invertebrate, fish, and plant species. The Natural Resources Conservation Team reviews proposed projects that have a potential to impact this valuable habitat. Efforts, such as flagging wetlands boundaries, bird nesting surveys, and other monitoring activities, are vital to ensure these resources are protected while supporting construction projects, and testing or demonstration activities at Point Mugu.
