PATROL BASE FAHEEM, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Marines with 3rd Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, render the 3-volley salute during the memorial service for Lance Cpl. Norberto Mendez-Hernandez at Patrol Base Faheem, July 18. The Marines of 1/5 paid tribute to the life, service and sacrifice of the improvised explosive device sweeper who was killed in action while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Northern Sangin Green Zone, July 10. Known to most as Mendez, the 22-year-old graduate of Logan High School in Fullerton, Calif., leaves behind his wife and two children.
