SASEBO, Japan (April 11, 2018) The submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) is moored at Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo during a deployment as an expeditionary submarine tender conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance to Navy units. Land and USS Frank Cable (AS 40), the U.S. Navy’s only two submarine tenders, both homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam, provide maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
