Petty Officer 1st Class Gerald Crawford, top, from Jacksonville, Fla., oversees Royal Australian Air Force Flight Lt. Phillip Laverty, bottom, air battle manager and executive officer, Surveillance and Control Training Unit, assigned to HMAS Darwin, as he observes and performs aircraft check-in procedures in the combat information center aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG 63). USS Cowpens is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and is underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. TS11 is a biennial combined training activity designed to train Australian and U.S. forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations to improve Australian Defense Force/U.S. combat readiness and interoperability. It reflects the closeness of the alliance and the strength and flexibility of the ongoing military-military relationship. (U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer 1st Class N. Ross Taylor/Released)
