An aerial photograph shows a naval formation of approximately four to five military vessels underway on a calm, deep blue ocean. The ships appear to be traveling in a loose formation, each producing visible white wake trails behind them. The largest vessel, likely an aircraft carrier or large amphibious assault ship, is positioned centrally in the formation.

180406-N-XC372-1256 SOUTH CHINA SEA (April 6, 2018) The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), the Republic of Singapore Navy Victory-class corvette RSS Valiant (PGG 91), the Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme (FFG 73) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) transit the South China Sea in formation. Theodore Roosevelt is currently underway for a regularly scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
