A low-light nighttime image showing what appears to be military personnel in a prone or crouched position with a weapon equipped with an optical scope. A small glowing object, likely a spent cartridge casing or muzzle flash remnant, is visible in the lower right area. The scene is extremely dark with only minimal ambient and artificial light sources illuminating the subjects.

A Costa Rica competitor fires his sniper rifle during the sniper shooting event at this year’s Fuerzas Comando competition June 18. The event forced two-man sniper teams to prove their ability by engaging five targets from varying distances of 200 to 500 meters. Fuerzas Comando, which was established in 2004, is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored special operations skills competition and senior leader seminar which is conducted annually in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
