MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, OKINAWA, Japan – Lance Cpl. Riphlei Martinez puts on her aircraft rescue and firefighting proximity turnout gear before a wet run Feb. 10 at the ARFF training pit on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. Proximity turnout gear is a term many firefighters use to refer to their personal protective equipment due to the close proximity that firefighters keep the trousers and boots for quick access. ARFF Marines on MCAS Futenma stand ready to respond to any crisis 24/7. Martinez is an ARFF specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Support Squadron.
