Andrew Kornacki, chief of public affairs for the Buffalo District, was recognized on February 10, 2018 by Recovery Field Office commander Lt. Col. Roberto Solorzano for his work while deployed to Puerto Rico for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hurricane Maria/Hurricane Irma response. During his deployment, Kornacki answered news media queries about USACE's efforts in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency-led federal response and helped document major mission accomplishments, such as when the Corps collected its 3,000,000th cubic yard of debris generated by the storms, an amount more than twice the interior volume of the Empire State Building. He is a resident of Buffalo, New York.
