Van McCarty, deputy adjutant general for South Carolina, speaks to more than 300 U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Freshmen and Sophomore cadets at The Citadel during their Leadership Lab held at The Citadel campus in Charleston, South Carolina, Jan. 11, 2018. McCarty, a 1982 graduate of The Citadel and officer who has held many leadership positions in the South Carolina Army National Guard, was invited to speak with the cadets to provide insight on ethics, decision making and professional development.
