Pfc. Twiford of 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, tries on a gas mask to ensure proper fit at Contingency Location Garoua, Cameroon. The Joint Service General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) is a lightweight, protective mask system incorporating state-of-the-art technology to protect U.S. Joint forces from actual or anticipated threats. There are two variants: The M-50 for ground and shipboard personnel and the M-51 for armored combat vehicle crewman. Soldiers of 1-87 IN are serving in a support role of the Cameroon military’s fight against the violent extremist organization Boko Haram.
