U.S. Navy Sailors with Underwater Construction Team 2 Construction Diving Detachment Alfa work late into the evening with Sailors from Naval Construction Battalion 133 Detail Guam, USS Frank Cable, and USS Emory S. Land to salvage severed mooring chain from Apra Harbor, Guam on December 8, 2017. CDDA is leading the systematic removal of mooring chains left behind by the former dry dock Ex-Machinist, known locally as “Big Blue”. CDDA Is utilizing exothermic cutting, underwater rigging, lift bag, and crane operations to successfully remove approximately 10,000 feet of 3 inch di-lock chain. CDDA is on the 4th stop of their six-month deployment, where they are conducting inspection, maintenance, and repair of various underwater and waterfront facilities in support of the Pacific Fleet.
