    CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – Maj. James R. Sherwood reads Article 38 of the Marine Corps Manual, Edition of 1921 during the 242nd United States Marine Corps Birthday Cake Cutting and Historical Uniform Pageant Ceremony Nov. 7 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. On Nov. 1, 1921, John A. Lejeune, the 13th commandant of the Marine Corps, directed that a reminder of the honorable service of the Marine Corps be published by every command, to all Marines throughout the world, on the birthday of the Corps. Since that day, Marines have continued to distinguish themselves on battlefields and foreign shores, in war and peace. Sherwood is the Color Sergeant of the ceremony and the assistant chief of G-1, administration, Marine Corps Installations Pacific- Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan.
