Staff Sgt. Steven Allman, from Columbus, Ind., from the 252nd Ordnance Company, 38th Sustainment Brigade, chokes Sgt. John Herman, from Valparaiso, Ind., of A Company 113th Engineer Battalion, during the hand-to-hand combat event of the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year competition held at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind., April 18. The two-day event tested the soldiers abilities in weapon qualification, physical fitness, knowledge of Army Warrior tasks, day and night land navigation, hand-to-hand combat ability, an 8-mile road march, timed obstacle course, a written test and a board chaired by the Indiana Army National Guard’s most senior non-commissioned officers.
