Brig. Gen. Frederick Padilla, commanding general of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and the eastern recruiting region stands at attention while the citation of an award presented to the Branch Health Clinic is read at the clinic, April 13. The sailors at the clinic were presented the certificate of commendation for their quick work when the potential for the spread of a life threatening communicable disease became apparent, Feb. 7. The sailors identified, assessed and treated more than 580 recruits and 60 staff members within two hours of notification. Over the course of three days the sailors diligence and hard work resulted in no other recruits or staff members, besides those initially infected, having acute symptoms or requiring hospitalization.
