West Virginia National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Barry Moore interacts with a dog from the Kanawha County Humane Association during an animal rescue training session held Oct. 12, 2017 at the WVNG Center for National Response. The Humane Association’s dogs were used to familiarize members of the WVNG, Clendenin and Glasgow Fire Departments with the proper way to handle and decontaminate dogs and other smaller animals in emergency rescue situations. More than 50 Guard members and local firefighters make up the West Virginia Swift Water Rescue Team established after the flooding in 2016 who earned FEMA Level 2 swift water/flood search and recovery status with this training.
