West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt. Adam Landers explains the rigging method used to vertically hoist a life-size horse mannequin during an animal rescue training session held Oct. 12, 2017 at the WVNG Center for National Response. The hoist method was developed over the course of the training based on methods of human transportation used by the West Virginia National Guard, Clendenin Fire Department and Glasgow Fire Department. More than 50 Guard members and local firefighters make up the West Virginia Swift Water Rescue Team established after the flooding in 2016 who earned FEMA Level 2 swift water/flood search and recovery status with this training.
