McMichael, first sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 642nd Regional Support Group, fires an M249 light machine gun during a weapons familiarization event Aug. 23, 2017, at Pelham Range in Ft. McClellan, Ala. McMichael’s kneeling position supports the M249’s role as a relatively light and portable weapon that enhances the user’s ability to lay suppressive fire from a variety of stances.
