SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) -- Sally Monsoor, mother of Medal of Honor recipient Special Operator 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, observes a chief’s pinning ceremony for USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) on Mount Soledad. Michael A. Monsoor died in combat in 2006 and was post-humously awarded the Medal of Honor. The second ship of the Zumwalt class of guided missile destroyers, USS Michael Monsoor, was named in his honor and will serve as a multi-mission platform capable of operating as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces.
