U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 3, 2017) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Deion Mizthaler, from Portland, Ind, directs a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 161 (Reinforced) as it takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) during routine flight operations. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
