US 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 2, 2017) – Sgt. Patrick O’Brien, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), attaches a targeting pod to an AV-8B Harrier assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced) in the ship’s hangar bay as part of regular scheduled maintenance. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th MEU, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
